MyEducationBC
Our New Student Information System
This is an image for the page header
Our implementation of MyEducationBC began in April 2014 and will eventually involve most employees in School District No. 46.  The choice of the software product itself that is MyEducationBC began as a process that started 3 years ago involving literally 1000s of teachers, administrators, support staff, Ministry of Education Staff, IT Staff, and organization such as the BCTF, First Nations Schools, and many others involved in the educational preparation of students in British Columbia.  MyEducationBC should not be viewed as a simple software installation, but a complete change in the business/educational practices within School District No. 46.
Implementing MyEducationBC involves a multifaceted Communication Plan involving Senior Administration, Principals and Vice Principals, Teachers, Support Staff, and eventually students and their parents.  Communication will be ongoing and based upon ensuring that feedback from the users is taken into account and reflected in the Implementation Plan.
As a District, we installed the core Student Information System for ELEMENTARY / SCAS / SPIDER in September 2014, SECONDARY (including the teacher interface) for February 2015, and the Student and Family Portal for September 2015.

The teacher interface allows a teacher to:
  • Have their own secure academic website
  • Teachers can:
  • Input Attendance
  • Input Marks
  • Complete Report Cards
  • Develop an online course (Word, You Tube, PDF, Due Dates, Tests)
  • Correspondence (emails) with their students and parents
  • Upload and download files (file management)
  • The Student portal allows students to:
  • Have their own secure academic website
  • Students can view:
  • Attendance
  • Marks
  • View their course (Word, You Tube, PDF, Due Dates, Tests)
  • Correspondence (emails) with their teacher
  • Upload and download files (file management)
  • Develop a web page for their course(s)
  • Amass a portfolio of academic progress over many years
  • Conversely, the Parent Portal will allow parents to:
  • Have their own secure website linking them to their childís teacher
  • Parents can view:
  • Attendance
  • Marks
  • View their studentís course (Word, You Tube, PDF, Due Dates, Tests)
  • Correspondence (emails) with their teacher
  • The Project itself had many phases for implementation starting in January 2014 culminating with the full operation of the system with all student data loaded in August 2014.  Training will be supplied to the necessary users to ensure that they have the necessary skills to successfully utilize MyEducationBC, and as positions change and individuals take on new responsibilities, training will be supplied as an ongoing process of support for MyEducationBC.
  • Finally, MyEducationBC is a significant change in the Business/Education Processes of School District No. 46.  To this end, School District No. 46 envisions clear benefits to the administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and parents in MyEducationBC.  Some of these benefits include:
  • Modern interface that can be accessed on any device (desktops, tablets, and phones).
  • A design that places the vast majority of screens only one to two mouse clicks away so users find data they need quickly and easily.
  • Learning Management System/Gradebook: In addition to standard gradebook features, teachers and students have access to a complete learning platform with curriculum maps, instructional content, a lesson plan builder, online tests/quizzes, and even summative and formative assessment analysis across multiple subjects and multiple years.
  • Parent and Student Portals With Pages:  MyEducationBC Parent and Student Portal enables interaction with learning resources on class Web pages, communication and collaboration with teachers and other students, and provides the ability to complete assignments online. This is all in addition to the traditional portal tools providing access to attendance, grades, conduct, calendars, and notifications.
  • Streamlining the sharing of processes in terms of file management and course development.
